“And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.”
This one is inspired by the hip-hop dancers, who I have aways greatly admired. So I LOVE ballet, and always have. I think hip-hop/street dancers combine that passion and a lot of the same moves but in a modern and free-spirited way, which is more my style. There is a perfection to ballet, and in it is beauty. But with hip-hop there’s so much freedom of movement and passion involved! I know both sides can be played as better, but for this sketch, I took the inspiration from the street-dancers. This girl is in baggy jeans and sneakers:
Okay, this is called Spirit. As a description of the picture I said it was either because it was full of spirit or entirely empty of spirit. I put the wavy line through the whole thing to play off the latter idea – that it’s a channel of some sort.
I get that there are lots of lines and it seems a bit unfinished, but that’s just the way it is. I like it.
I think some people expect this to be a dancer or something. It’s not a dancer! It’s a skeleton. Skeletons don’t dance, geez get a grip on reality, man! I’m just kidding – I do give personalities to all my drawings. I haven’t gone so far as to really name them but there is one coming up that I call “My Archimedes”. 🙂 And he’s awesome. More to come…
